Power Generation Technician

Interstate Power Systems is looking to fill multiple positions with both Experienced or Journeyman level Power Generation Technician(s) for our Butler Wisconsin location. A Journeyman Power Generation Technician will be a resident expert within their assigned field. They will have the ability to work a job from start to finish independently from assignment. Has expertise on all internal systems within their job scope. A Journeyman will mentor other employees by providing training and guidance on use of internal systems. This individual will proactively identify improvements, responds in times of need, and makes themselves available to service team. A Journeyman will have more than 5 years experience as a mechanic in the power generation industry. We provide continued training, education, and certification opportunities to all Technician employees

This is a field position; most repairs will be taking place at customers location.

Interstate Power Systems is a distributor for Volvo Penta, Detroit Diesel Engines, Allison Transmissions, Deutz Engines, and Generators.

Power Generation Technician/Mechanic Job Duties:

  • Responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on all makes of generators.
  • Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products
  • Completing preventative maintenance and repairs on generators or components at the customer site with minimal direction.
  • Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify all components of the generator, engine, and switch gear.
  • Positive interface with service writers, foreman, parts department, and customers
  • Keep paperwork updated and handed in upon completion.
  • Meet requirements for certifications.
  • Perform administrative duties as related to role.

Power Generation Technician/Mechanic Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with industrial power generation sets.
  • Experience with diesel and natural gas engines, electrical switch gear, and automatic transfer switches
  • Must have your own set of general tools.
  • Be able to work with diagnostic computers for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Use computers for web-based training and repair order system.
  • Must be physically able to lift and work with no restrictions.
  • Clean driving record and the ability to pass a D.O.T. Physical

Ideal Power Generation Technician/Mechanic Candidate qualities:

  • Technical degree or certification a plus
  • Positive attitude and excellent customer relationship skills
  • Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products
  • The ability to set goals and accomplish them.
  • The desire to take advantage of certification opportunities to have the most updated product training.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work with little supervision.
